Hello Everyone…
I am a Grounded Airhead, Sensible and Sensitive…. (can you guess any of my natal chart signs?) 🍻Unfortunately, my human blue print, while being lovely and all… isn’t the best when it comes to being consistent, hence my lag in posting anything the last little while, for which I apologize and ask for your forgiveness… 🙏🙏🙏😊
I will be getting back to posting the moon and planetary movements within the next few days…. 🙏😎
In the mean time, my neighbour and friend has asked me to share/email forward a petition circling on Change.org
The petition is regarding the 2026 property tax hikes being proposed in the Region of Durham.
The Tax hike is 6.5%... Year after year for the last 5 or so years, property taxes within our area have steadily risen… with each successive year being just a little bit more then the last year.
I understand that this isn’t a novel situation, in fact, it’s beginning to seem like an epidemic of tax grabbing, every city and every town is doing the same thing….
We are told it’s to fund our emergency services, (Fire, Police Ambulance)… due to the excessive growth happening at an alarming rate, so fast in fact, that along with the afore mentioned emergency services, homeless shelters are also needed, for us, that meant a $21 million dig into the public purse just for the building…. which needed extensive renovations to make it legal… The building had previously been sold for a mere $8 million to a private buyer, just 6 months before…
So, not only did our incompetent municipal/regional government pay an extra 13 million dollars that they didn’t need to pay, they also bought a building that wasn’t up to par for the needs. This purchase was done without the knowledge of the immediate community, which it would most affect, with no thought to the consequences of both the societal affect and the added responsibility on the tax payer, first to replace the money taken from the coiffeurs, and then for the continued maintenance of the building and wages of the staff…
And like many municipalities, municipal staff continue to expect and receive regular wage increases.
We are tired of footing the bill for the financial mistakes of those who have been elected to work for us…
We therefore oppose any upcoming tax increase, until those who have access to our tax money, are audited, and educated as to how to spend it wisely and in a fiscally responsible manner… Our trust has been broken, it’s up to those in government, (on every level) to show us why we should trust them again.
If you live in the Durham Region, and do not agree to your property taxes going up year after year, please check out the below petition, forward and share if you feel this is important for the tax payer to have a say in.
Thank You.
