We are excited to announce that we will host our second annual overnight camp-out in the city, theHomegrown Jamboree, as part of the Homegrown National Park Project this summer.
In partnership with Fort York, on August 22-23, we’ll be inviting a limited number of families to join our Homegrown Park Rangers for a night of camping on the grounds of the national historic site, located in the heart of downtown Toronto.
The cost for the Homegrown Jamboree is $30 per adult and $15 per child, including all meals, fun activities, s’mores by the campfire, ghost walks and more. Each family will need to provide their own tents and sleeping bags. Equipment can be rented, or better yet borrowed from campers in your networks.
If your family is interested in participating in the Homegrown Jamboree, please register ASAP. Apply early and be sure to let us know why you think your troop of happy campers is keen to join us! Application closes on July 24.
And this Friday will be our second Homegrown Pizza in the Park event of the season. We’ll once again have Pizzeria Libretto cooking slices, plus BBQ corn and watermelon.
If you want to make it a Pizza + Movie night, join us at the screening of “All the time in the world” at Bloor Cinema for 4p.m. Use our discount code DSPIZZANIGHT for $9 tickets. Then join us at Christie Pits Park for pizza at 6 p.m! Show us your ticket and get a dollar off your pizza.
SGC From our inbox to you: Good News from Environmental Defence:
YES! LOBLAW PHASES OUT MICROBEADS, HARMFUL CHEMICALS TRICLOSAN, PHTHALATES
National retailer Loblaw announced plans to eliminate triclosan, phthalates and microbeads from its store brands. This is great news for consumers! Triclosan is a known hormone disruptor, phthalates have been linked to cancer, and microbeads are threatening our lakes and aquatic life.
However, more than voluntary industry action is needed. We also need clear labeling laws so Canadians can know what’s in the products they buy.
VICTORY FOR OUR BEES: ONTARIO IS ENACTINGTOUGHER RULES ON NEONICS
Thanks to thousands of people speaking out for bees, Ontario is now the first province or state in North America to restrict the use and sale of bee-killing pesticides, known as neonics. This wouldn’t have been possible without your help. Thank you for helping to save the bees!
HOW DO THE FEDERAL PARTIES COMPARE ON CLIMATE?
Environmental Defence launched a new scorecard last week comparing the federal parties’ commitments on climate change and the approach each would take at the U.N. climate summit in Paris in December. With the upcoming federal election, it’s critical for all parties to show what kind of leadership they will bring to the Paris talks. Tell our federal party leaders to be climate leaders.
The SADIES The Awesome Hots Mat Elias And Mountain Soul
On July 4th, communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast will be organizing events to demand action on the growing climate crisis. Together they will showcase solutions and push for just transitions that put workers and those most impacted by the negative impacts of resource extraction first.
Alberta has some of the best solar and wind resources in the world yet we utilize less than 1% of it. It’s time Alberta harnessed the power of renewables and reaped the job and economic benefits that come with it.
On July 4th, join us in Edmonton for a free concert at the Legislature and be part of building the new Alberta.
Why: To celebrate the power of renewables and demand action on the climate.
Together we can make a difference. Together we can make the change our world so desperately needs.
For more information about actions across Canada, visit www.350.org/july.
Part of the concert will be powered by solar and bike energy.
