Town of Whitby: Appointment of Citizens to Boards and Committees vacancies

SGC Admin: Heads up citizens of Whitby, :) Whitby Council is currently accepting applications from residents interested in the following committees: It’s a great way to get involved in the community, and if stress levels are kept to a minimum due to everyone working well with each other, it’s probably also very good for the soul… :)

Harbour Day Committee:

  • Role: To oversee operation of the annual Harbour Day event: Identify sources of funding, sponsorship and grant opportunities: Support marketing and promotional plans: Encourage participation in the event via volunteers and community based organizations: Report findings and consultations with council is required: 
  • Meetings: Harbour Day committee meetings are held on the 3rd (third) Thursday of each month at 2:00 pm: Additional meetings may be added as required. 
  • Vacancies: Currently 2 spots are open: 
  • Term: Ending November 30 2014

Whitby In Bloom Committee: 

  • Role: Promote a beautiful community through education, partnerships and programs focused on horticultural, landscape and environmentally responsible projects. Community members and local business may apply to be appointed to support he planning and implementation of this Town-wide program. 
  • Meetings: Whitby in Bloom meetings are held the 2nd (second) Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm. Additional meetings will be added as required. 
  • Vacancies: 1 spot available at present
  • Term: Ending November 30 2014

The Deadline for application acceptance for either of these committees is:

December 22 2013

Christmas is the season of giving, of forgiving and of being compassionate towards others, it is about peace and acceptance…. :) those who can give with good intentions do so,  and those who can’t may accept with gratitude… There are many avenues to giving, here is another one… happening until December 8 2013…

  • The Cause: Cornerstone Community Association, a 40 bed men’s shelter in Oshawa
  • What Happens: Every $5:00 donation made by customers at select Durham Region Urban Barn stores means the store will donate a new fleece blanket to Cornerstone Community.
