The Moon and Astrology: How it affects our daily life… Moon in Aries… 11/03/2014/ to 11/05/2014

The Moon and Astrology

&

HOW IT AFFECTS OUR DAILY LIVES…

In astrology, the moon is connected to our emotions and reactions… how we are feeling on a given day may well be influenced by the sign that is visiting the moon… Each sign stays with the moon for up to 2.5 days…. :)

The Moon Void-off-Course:

There are times throughout the month when the moon isn’t fully immersed in any sign… this is when we say the moon is Void off Course… and when this occurs, we may feel “foggy” and “unfocused” … We may not be sure how we are truly feeling about a situation or a person…. Therefore it is not recommended that we make long-term commitments or important decision’s while the moon is Void off Course…. However there are 4 signs in the zodiac which may prove positive during the Void-off-Course moon…

Good for Void-Off-Course Moon:

These v/c signs may prove to be quite productive times.

  • Cancer
  • Taurus
  • Sagittarius
  • Pisces…

Opportunity Periods  (thanks to astrologer Jim Shawvan):

There are other periods throughout the month that are known as opportunity periods, when it can prove to be a positive time for most people, however if you have challenging aspects happening within your own chart you may not be able to make use of opportunity periods.

Thanks to Jim Shawvan present day astrologer, William Lilly 17th century astrologer and Llewellyn’s Daily Planetary Guide for opportunity periods.

  • Opportunity Period: Yes. November 4 3:06 pm (ET) 12:06 pm (PT) to 7:02 am (ET) 4:02 am (PT). This O/P time is good for checking those ideas listed during the Mercury Retrograde… we can sort the workable from the not so workable now. We may also have more energy then we have felt in a while, making it a good time to get to those tasks we have been putting aside.

What does it all mean?

  • We should have slightly more get up and go when the moon is in Aries
  • We are happy to defend our loved ones
  • We are apt to speak up more, even those of us who consider themselves to be “timid” can find the voice they need right now.

  • Be careful when driving especially when upset or angry
  • We may be more susceptible to head injuries or head aches
  • We could be eager to start projects now, however, we have just experienced a full moon, (time to finish up) so if you really want to start something now, choose something small… :)

  • We may be more decisive than usual, as always use caution …
  • Be careful about saying yes to everything right now, we might feel like we can handle more, but when the time comes we could be sorry we took on so much at once.
  • If you aren’t looking to enlarge your family right now, take care, Aries has a lot of sexual energy to utilize… ;)
  • The Moon in Aries will have a slight effect on all of us, but it will have more of an effect on those who have the following in their charts:
  • Moon in Aries:
  • Sun in Aries:
  • Ascendant or Midheaven in Aries:

  • We can be wistful, impressionable, nostalgic and dreamy now.
  • Although this moon will have a slight effect on all of us, this moon will have more effect on those who have the following in their charts:

Astrology and how it “works” in our daily life: Opportunity Period October 29 2014

Astrology and how it “Works in our daily life”

Opportunity Period’s

  • Event: Opportunity Period (thanks to Jim Shawvan for figuring out the Periods)
  • Date(s): October 29 2014
  • Time(s): 5:03 pm (ET)/3:03 pm(PT) to 11:00 pm (ET)/8:00 pm (PT)
  • Moon sign: Virgo. .
  • Other Planet(s) Involved: Mercury in Libra.
  • Void off Course: No. Void off Course begins as OP ends.

What does it Mean?:

Jim Shawvan, astrologer, over a 30 year period, has developed the Opportunity Period’s system. He shares his findings in Llewellyn’s Daily Planetary Guide.

  •          An Opportunity Period (OP) is a period in which the aspects of the transiting Moon to other transiting planets show no interference with the free flow of decision and action. (Jim Shawvan)
  •        ” Opportunity Periods apply to everyone in the world all at once; although, if the astrological influences on your own chart are putting blocks in your path, you may not be able to use every OP to the fullest. Nevertheless, you are always better off taking important actions and making crucial decisions during an Opportunity Period.” (Jim Shawvan)

  • When an OP appears make the best of the time if possible.
  • Some OP times are very short and happen in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning.
  • This OP is good for reviewing any ideas jotted down over the last few weeks while Mercury was retrograde or “slow”… Now you can have a clearer understanding of what ideas will work and which were just fancy thinking… :)

We call this celebration November Noir, and this year we are looking forward to our visit with Suzanne Kingsmill, author of the Cordi O’Callaghan mysteries, which are about a zoologist who finds herself solving murders.
  • Kingsmill will join us on Thursday, November 27 at 7:00 pm, and our good friend Susanna Kearsley will act as host and interviewer. Stay tuned to our Programs & Events web page for upcoming details on how you can register for this event.

In the meantime, why not try some of the latest books from our previous November Noir authors?

  • Under Cold Stone by Vicki Delany is the latest in the Constable Molly Smith mysteries. Set in Banff, Alberta and Trafalgar, British Columbia, Molly steps in to help her mother, Lucky Smith, when Lucky’s fiancé’s son is suspected of murder.
  • Never Laugh as a Hearse Goes By by Elizabeth Duncan isn’t exactly new (it was published in 2013) but it’s still worth a read. Amateur sleuth Penny Brannigan is attending a conference at the Gladstone Library in North Wales when the bishop’s secretary is found poisoned. Mysteriousness ensues.
  • No Known Grave by Maureen Jennings is the third in her World War Two series about Detective Inspector Tom Tyler. In this latest outing, Tyler has to investigate when a double murder takes place at a convalescent hospital. It blends mystery with a portrait of wartime Britain.
  • Stranglehold by local author Robert Rotenberg is set in Toronto. Detective Ari Greene finds the tables turned when he himself is accused of murder. Filled with twists and unexpected surprises,
    Stranglehold is a page turner.
  • Up in Smoke by Ross Pennie is the latest in the series featuring Public Health Investigator Dr. Zol Szabo. In this story, Szabo and his team fear an epidemic when teens at a high school in tobacco country start dying of unexplained liver failure. Up in smoke, indeed.
  • Of course, these are just a sampling of new mysteries and detective novels for you to curl up and enjoy during chilly November. Want more? Here’s a list of mysteries published in 2014 to further whet your appetite for the enigmatic.

Get Essay Help with Literature Resource Centre

  • Ah, the English essay. Or as it’s often known today, the English ISU. Students are asked to discuss themes, irony, pathos, foreshadowing and other concepts beloved of English teachers everywhere in the context of an assigned novel or other literary work. How does Shakespeare portray women in Macbeth? What are the parallels between Soviet totalitarianism and Animal Farm? Explain the concepts of good and evil as presented in To Kill a Mockingbird. Conrad, Shelley, Lord of the Flies…it can all be a little overwhelming.
  • That’s where our Literature Reference Centre (LRC) database can help. LRC is a great resource for all things literary: novels, plays, poems, screenplays and much more. You’ll find great overviews and summaries of well-known works, author biographies, reviews, interviews and something called “literary criticism.” Literary criticism includes, among other things, essays on some of the themes mentioned above. So if you’re at your wits end trying to explain how the conch represents civilization in Lord of the Flies, give LRC a try.
  • You can find Literature Reference Centre and much more on the Books, Literature and Libraries page of the Research section of our website. You’ll need a Whitby Library card to access our electronic resources from home. If you have questions about any of our electronic resources, please drop us a line at any of our locations.

Whitby Archives Snapped from the Past

This November the Whitby Archives will be presenting at the Brooklin and Rossland branches in commemoration of Remembrance Day. • Registration for each program is required. Contact any branch to register.
