Ontario Drive Clean Program Changes…

As of January 1 2013 the testing procedure for 1998 and newer vehicles has changed significantly! A new OBD (On Board Diagnostic) status test replaces the current tailpipe test for 1998 and newer vehicles. A tailpipe test will continue to be used for 1988 through 1997 model year vehicles. Background – On 1998 and newer cars, the vehicle on board computer continuously monitors the emission systems. When the computer sees a problem, it logs a Diagnostic Code and turns on the “Check Engine Light”. A 1998 or newer vehicle with a “Check Engine Light” on will fail the E-test.

Need to Know:

  • If you clear/remove the Diagnostic Codes to turn the check engine light off before the E-test, the vehicle will fail the E-test and, important diagnostic clues will be lost.
  • Clearing the Codes will “unset” all the computer monitors. A monitor is a specific system self test, that occurs within the Engine computer. If 2 or more of the 5-8 monitors are unset, the E-test will fail.

Tips:

  • Don’t sweat it! Most vehicles will pass the E-test
  • During 2013, 1988 to 2006 even model year vehicles require an emission test
  • E Test Cost $35:00
  • A PASS vehicle inspection report is valid for one year from the date of the test.
  • The $450.00 repair cost limit is still valid, when diagnostics/repairs are performed at a Drive Clean Facility. (Except ownership transfer).
  • Fail test report indicates Trouble Code and monitor status, an inexpensive first step to diagnostics.
  • Do not clear Diagnostic Codes prior to an E-test
  • Emission repair will become a longer process due to the “Drive Cycles” required following an emissions repair.
  • Drive Cycles in most cases, will be fulfilled by the vehicle owner driving the car for several days after the repair and before the retest.
  • Plan ahead! Schedule your E test 2 to 3 weeks before vehicle registration due date

A Fail is Likely on 1998 and newer vehicles when:

  • A “Check Engine Light” is glowing on your dash
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code is set in memory
  • Status of 2 or more Systems Monitored set at “Not Ready”
  • Clearing the codes to eliminate the Check Engine Light without the required repairs and subsequent drive cycles.
  • Incorrect emission repairs
  • Testing a car shortly after changing or boosting it’s battery.

Good News there are people who understand that Nature has a right to life too..

From the Editor:

There isn’t much on the television these days that can make me feel awed, and put the light of hope on within me… but last night I saw a show that did just that…

The show was the Nature of Things with David Suzuki…

The show highlighted the two small nations of Ecuador and Bolivia… both of which have decided to take matters in their hands, Ecuador regarding the environment and Bolivia regarding taking charge of her future for the benefit of the people and not for the benefit of big companies… :)

Ecuador, has an amazing supply of that liquid gold we call oil, but a huge amount of it is buried underneath the fantastic rain forest within the nation… The rain forests around the world, as many of us now know are a big supplier of the earth’s oxygen and I would suspect also an effective cleaner of toxins within our air…The whole world’s air…. It’s hard to believe that something so far away from where we may live has such an affect upon our environment and consequently upon our health but it’s true..

The people of Ecuador have had a unique understanding and connection to Mother Nature for a long, long time… and it is this understanding and connection that has prompted them to protect their forest not exploit it… For now they are holding the big oil companies at bay and refusing then entrance… In fact the people are so passionate about Mother Nature that they have written her into their constitution . Yep that’s right… Mother Nature has rights… all that lives, is afforded the same right.. the right to live, produce and work within the cycle of life… :)

This is amazing, incredible, almost alien to a world that has been hell bent on growth and expansion, the economy has had centre stage and I never thought it would be otherwise, until now… The People of Ecuador have given me hope, and I pray that this concept will spread around the world like a plague… :) As those in Ecuador say… It is time to focus on happiness, real, true happiness, not growth… :) YIPPEE!!!

Bolivia is “fighting” back, her people are taking control of her resources and putting them to good use, they are working towards a better future for the general population, not just for the fortunate few… Many working class folks have it rough, they work long and hard for little reward… In the past Bolivia’s natural resources have been exploited by those who have a selfish agenda, leaving her barren and bare… Thank heavens this has changed…

Bolivia is home to the biggest salt flats in the world… (I think that’s what the show said) ;) and the salt has been a means of income for many years.. it’s hard work in gruelling temperatures, but it’s been a life line for many…

Underneath the salt flats is something even more valuable in our hi tech world… Lithium.. the stuff batteries are made out of… the stuff that power’s our cell phones and computers and numerous other electronic devices we have become addicted to… and this time around the people of  Bolivia aren’t allowing “outsiders” to come along and take it.

The people aren’t even going to have outsiders in to build what’s needed to obtain and purify the Lithium for use the people of Bolivia are attempting to do it all themselves, they want to learn how to do it so they can be as independent as possible… It is likely they will need help from outside sources for some things, after all the country isn’t as hi tech as the rest of the world,  and it may also be likely that they will have to “pay back” some of the assistance received over the years from countries such as China… but my hat goes off to the people of Bolivia for believing they can make changes and for taking responsibility for themselves… and by keeping control of the salt flats they have a much better chance of obtaining the resources they need in a more eco-friendly manner and hopefully the extraction of the Lithium will be done in such a manner and at such a pace that it won’t leave a huge whole in the eco system..

Happy New Year… And Bottoms Up to one that changes the way we think and view Mother Nature for the better… :)

New Moon January 11 2013

Our lady starts anew this month in the sign of Capricorn… :)

moonphasesmoving

It’s a good new moon for a new year as her main concern is going to be with getting things organized. The Capricorn moon will want to get down to business, indicating this could be a good time to initiate new business ideas or plans…

Watch out for feelings of “guilt” if you skip your duties, and try not to expect the best of everyone, we aren’t all duty bound or career orientated… :) Try to be accepting of the ideas or opinions of others for the next few days, holding grudges isn’t healthy… :)

It’s a good idea to be aware of our emotional responses during a Capricorn new moon, as some of us may have a tendency to appear off-handed or emotional distant toward loved ones… if left unchecked this could have a negative impact on close relationships.

The new moon is traditionally a good time to begin new projects, put new ideas into practice or to put plans to paper. Not everyone will be ready or able to start things during a new moon, but if you can why not give it a try and see what happens.. :)

The moon in Capricorn will have more of an impact on those people who have the following in their birth chart.

Capricorn Moon: Capricorn Sun: Moon in the 10th house.

Full Moon December 28 2012:

Our lady becomes full for the last time in 2012 on December 28 2012 at approx. 5:21 am… She will be sitting in the sign of Cancer until December 30, when she will move into the sign of Leo…

The Moon in Cancer:

The moon controls our emotions and is also the ruler of nurturing, sensitive Cancer.

The moon is comfy here, domestic issues are in the forefront, caring for loved ones, making the house cozy, cooking comforting meals and lots of cuddles can be in store for the next couple of days… However, you are advised to be ever watchful for insecurities, defence barriers going up against imagined slights, crabby and or needy behaviour…. :)

Those with the following are likely to be more effected by this Full Moon…

Sun sign in Cancer, Moon Sign in Cancer, Sun in the 4th house, Moon in the 4th house.

The Full Moon is good time to finish up projects and get organized…
