Instructions: Place used batteries in zip lock bags, or clear plastic bags with a zipper style seal. Place on the bags the orange sticker (provided by the region) onto the bags to identify them. Please Note: Only undamaged batteries should be set out for collection, no leaky ones please. Please place your bagged and labelled batteries on top of your blue recycling bins.
Where to get the orange stickers: Residents of Ajax, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog and Uxbridge will receive their stickers in their 2014 waste management calendars: Residents of Whitby and Oshawa may pick up their stickers at select local municipal offices.
Note: Whitby and Oshawa residents will have changes to their collection dates due to Easter, please check your waste management calendars as the time approaches.

They recently shared the following “success story” with their followers and we are very happy to share the good news with you… :) It would appear there are still some good guys out there…. :)
Delay no more. That’s the clear, strong message the Federal Court sent late last week when it chastised the Canadian government for its chronic, unlawful delays in producing recovery strategies for our country’s vulnerable wildlife.The judgment, coming just six weeks after our Federal Court hearing, marks the successful end to one of the biggest endangered species lawsuits in Ecojustice history. The lawsuit challenged the federal government’s multi-year delays in producing recovery strategies for four species — the Pacific Humpback Whale, Nechako White Sturgeon, Marbled Murrelet and Southern Mountain Caribou.
Justice Anne L. Mactavish wrote in her judgment:
It is … apparent that the delay encountered in these four cases are just the tip of the iceberg. There is clearly an enormous systemic problem within the relevant Ministries, given the respondents’ acknowledgement that there remain some 167 species at risk for which recovery strategies have not yet been developed.
This isn’t just a big win for the four species at issue in the case, but a victory for the rest of Canada’s wildlife struggling to survive. Thanks to your support, the pressure’s now on the federal government to step up and find a way to produce meaningful recovery strategies for the 160+ species that still need them.Lawsuits like this one require a massive investment on the part of both our staff and supporters like you. We are so grateful for your continued commitment to Ecojustice’s mission to use the law to protect and restore the environment.

We are unsure if signatures are still needed, but haven’t heard anything to the contrary yet, we will update this post when we do…. We wish this family closure and healed hearts…
19 years ago this week,my 17 year old brother Jay and five of his friends went missing while out on a boat in Lake Ontario on a cold windy night. The pain of not knowing where he is or what happened that night has been devastating for my family and especially my mom who was so close to him.
Now, there is a shred of hope that we might get answers. Remains were found in the Niagara river wearing red Levis jeans identical to the ones my brother was wearing that night. We need to know if it’s him and we’re pleading with the police to do a DNA test, but so far, the answer has been no.
People say time heals all wounds, but that can’t happen if you don’t have closure.
Will you sign my petition asking the police to do a DNA test on the remains found with the red Levis? Our family is even willing to pay for the DNA testing. We just need the police to agree.
Every year at this time our family goes down to Lake Ontario where he was last seen. Staring at the open water which is so cold this time of year I know we’re all thinking about those last moments.
My mom hasn’t come to the memorial since 1996. It’s just too hard for her. It took her years to accept that he wasn’t coming back. Now, knowing these remains exists, she told me, this is the closest she’s ever felt to having closure in all these years.
The police have said they don’t think the body can be his. The testing done on the bones when they were originally found showed that they were from a man age 25-60, but that’s a huge range and Jay was no ordinary 17 year old, but that’s not really the point anyway. Without a DNA test my mom will wonder for the rest of her life and we just need to know.
We’re amazed at the response so far. In a few days we’ve gathered over 5000 signatures and local news has been covering the story. With more signatures and people asking questions of the police, we’re sure they’ll do the right thing. Please sign our petition and help us find out if my brother has finally been found.
