  • Date: January 8 2017
  • Moon Sign: Gemini:
  • Moon Phase: 2nd
  • Void-of-Course: January 10
  • House(s) 8th & 9th house of, death, tax’s, insurance issues, shared money matters: higher learning and travel, new experiences, publishing, advertising politics, religion and philosophy.
  • Opportunity Period: January 10 early morning to late afternoon. Good for business dealings.

What does it all mean?

  • Gemini is an air sign and needs lots of stimuli. She is ruled by Mercury. Mercury turns direct on January 8th but will still be in his “storm” until January 14…. remain vigilant until then, as plans can still go in the opposite direction you were intending.
  • The house connected to Gemini is the 3rd house of: day-to-day travel/affairs and siblings… we could find ourselves busy with multiple things going on, even if they are just in our own minds… ;) Dealings with family, especially siblings, are likely. Memories are shared and possible solutions to old problems can be found. However, wait until after the Mercury Retrograde before putting any new ideas or plans into motion.
  • We may find we are trying to do multiple things at once, which may not go exactly as we may have planned. If you do find you have tons of ideas spinning around in your head, take pen to paper and jot them down… it will ease the “inside chatter” and you may find some of them useful later on.
  • Could be lots of chit chatting going on, and some of us may have to make a concerted effort to listen instead of chat.
  • Caution is advised when doing up letters, emails and relaying messages, as much as we may think we have it right, it’s better to check one more time
  • In the 8th house: It could mean a trip to the lawyer, Insurance agent or bank manager for some folks… it’s also a good time to review our money situation, especially after the holiday season… talk things over with your other half and get a budget in the works… with a Gemini moon there shouldn’t be any worries about coming up with logical solutions.
  • In the 9th house: A Busy time for some folks, plans could be in the making for travel
  • A new study could be on the cards for some of us.. and it will likely be approached with enthusiasm.
  • If it’s possible to go on vacation now, grab the chance, you might learn more than you could have ever imagined… :)
  • It’s a good time to get those lists and notes made up… we can feel good about putting pen to paper now.
  • Boredom may be at our door step and we may feel more restless than usual.
  • This moon sign will have more of an effect on those who have the following in their charts.
        • Sun in Gemini
        • Sun in Virgo
        • Moon in Gemini
        • Moon in the 3rd house
        • Moon in Sagittarius
        • Moon in the 9th house
        • Any aspects to the Moon, Mercury or Jupiter

The Moon and Astrology

HOW IT AFFECTS OUR DAILY LIVES…

In astrology, the moon is connected to our emotions and reactions… how we are feeling on a given day may well be influenced by the sign that is visiting the moon… Each sign stays with the moon for up to 2.5 days…. :)

The Moon Void-of-Course:

There are times throughout the month when the moon isn’t fully immersed in any sign… this is when we say the moon is Void of Course… and when this occurs, we may feel “foggy” and “unfocused” … We may not be sure how we are truly feeling about a situation or a person…. Therefore it is not recommended that we make long-term commitments or important decision’s while the moon is Void of Course…. However there are 4 signs in the zodiac which may prove positive during the Void-of-Course moon…

Good for Void-Of-Course Moon: These v/c signs may prove to be quite productive times.

  • Cancer
  • Taurus
  • Sagittarius
  • Pisces…

Opportunity Periods  (Astrologer: Jim Shawvan):

There are other periods throughout the month that are known as opportunity periods, when it can prove to be a positive time for most people, however if you have challenging aspects happening within your own chart you may not be able to make use of opportunity periods.

Thanks to Jim Shawvan present day astrologer, William Lilly 17th century astrologer and Llewellyn’s Daily Planetary Guide for opportunity periods.

Happy Winter Solstice… Joyuous Yule 2016

The following article is from “The Huffington Post

Darren Staples / Reuters
The Charnwood Grove of Druids gather for a public winter solstice ritual on Beacon Hill near Loughborough, Britain December 18, 2016.

In 2016, the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere will begin on Wednesday, December 21 at 5:44 EST. To calculate the turning point in your time zone, click here.

Officially the first day of winter, the winter solstice occurs when the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun. This is the longest night of the year, meaning that despite the cold winter, the days get progressively longer after the winter solstice until the summer solstice in 2017.

The winter solstice is celebrated by many people around the world as the beginning of the return of the sun, and darkness turning into light. The Talmud recognizes the winter solstice as “Tekufat Tevet.” In China, the Dongzhi Festival is celebrated on the Winter Solstice by families getting together and eating special festive food.

Until the 16th century, the winter months were a time of famine in northern Europe. Most cattle were slaughtered so that they wouldn’t have to be fed during the winter, making the solstice a time when fresh meat was plentiful. Most celebrations of the winter solstice in Europe involved merriment and feasting. In pre-Christian Scandinavia, the Feast of Juul, or Yule, lasted for 12 days celebrating the rebirth of the sun god and giving rise to the custom of burning a Yule log.

In ancient Rome, the winter solstice was celebrated at the Feast of Saturnalia, to honor Saturn, the god of agricultural bounty. Lasting about a week, Saturnalia was characterized by feasting, debauchery and gift-giving. With Emperor Constantine’s conversion to Christianity, many of these customs were later absorbed into Christmas celebrations.

Revelers celebrate the winter solstice at Stonehenge on December 22, 2015. Stonehenge is a celebrated venue of festivities during the winter solstice – the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere – and it attracts thousands of revelers, spiritualists and tourists. Druids, a pagan religious order dating back to Celtic Britain, believe Stonehenge was a center of spiritualism more than 2,000 years ago.

One of the most famous celebrations of the winter solstice in the world today takes place in the ancient ruins of Stonehenge, England. Thousands of Druids and Pagans gather there to chant, dance and sing while waiting to see the spectacular sunrise.

Pagan author T. Thorn Coyle wrote in a 2012 HuffPost article that for many contemporary celebrants, solstices “are a chance to still ourselves inside, to behold the glory of the cosmos, and to take a breath with the Sacred.”

In the Northern hemisphere, friends gather to celebrate the longest night. We may light candles, or dance around bonfires. We may share festive meals, or sing, or pray. Some of us tell stories and keep vigil as a way of making certain that the sun will rise again. Something in us needs to know that at the end of the longest night, there will be light.

In connecting with the natural world in a way that honors the sacred immanent in all things, we establish a resonance with the seasons. Ritual helps to shift our consciousness to reflect the outer world inside our inner landscape: the sun stands still within us, and time changes. After the longest night, we sing up the dawn. There is a rejoicing that, even in the darkest time, the sun is not vanquished. Sol Invictus — the Unconquered Sun — is seen once again, staining the horizon with the promise of hope and brilliance.

Astrology Notes: Mercury goes Retrograde December 19 2016 to January 8 2017:

        • Astrological Event: Mercury goes Retrograde
          Date: December 19 2016:
        • Time Line: He enters his storm December 15 2016, Goes Retrograde on December 19 until January 8: He will be back in his “storm” January 14: It’s best to keep all new projects on hold from ***December 15 2016 to after January 14 2017*** if possible.
        • If you do need to start on new projects, relationships, jobs, career’s, writings etc… keep in my that it’s very likely nothing will turn out the way you may be expecting… This doesn’t mean things won’t work out … (eventually). However, it does mean more patience is needed to see results or to get things moving…
  • What does it all mean?
  • Mercury is the planet of communications, he is also a messenger and likes to do two things at once. He rules Gemini and Virgo.
  • Retrograde motion means that from the earth’s perspective it appears that the planet Mercury is going backwards.
  • Our communications and organizational skills may not be up to par during this time.
  • Messages can get misinterpreted or misplaced.
  • We can miss appointments during this period, so check your date book frequently and place all scheduled appointments in your date book or phone in a place you will see them often.
  • It’s not a good time to begin anything until after the 11th of February if it’s at all possible. Projects begun now are not likely to go as planned.
  • Be prepared to redo things.
  • It’s the perfect time to review, redecorate, renew…. However, it’s advisable that we all check and double-check the fine print before signing on the dotted line.
  • Stick to the hobbies already begun.
  • Don’t be disappointed if things don’t go exactly as planned regarding our “down time”.
  • Take extra care when sending out invitations to an event, make sure you have the date, time and place correct… or else you may find you have to get them printed all over again.
  • Be Prepared have more than one thing on the go at once, however, take care not to add more to your agenda then you can comfortably do, else run the risk of mixing up your “homework” or dates.
  • Relationships might have to be re-assessed
  • Beginning December 15 2016 Write down any new creative ideas for future reference, note the time and re visit the list after January 14 2017.
