Lake Placid Pub and Brewery ☺

Lake Placid New York State ☺

is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains and is globally known for hosting two Olympics. It is well visited by athletes from all over, who come to practice their craft and hone their skills. The Lake Placid area is also well-known to cyclists who in my opinion are very, very brave as they cycle along the road which is also shared by motorist going  45 mph. and more. Lake Placid area is also a favorite with those who love to ride  motorcycles, it’s a pleasure to ride along the winding country roads, while being surrounded by forest, mountains and rivers. Ahhh…..

All in all Lake Placid and area(s) are pretty happening places. If you find yourself in the town of Lake Placid and you enjoy sipping on a great beer, then may we suggest you find your way to The Lake Placid Pub and BreweryWe visit this place every time we come to Lake Placid, it’s a must on our list of things to do. The staff are friendly, the food good and reasonably priced and the beer is made on the premise, full-bodied and good for you… ☺

We recommend the fish and chips with a smile, the fish is perfectly done, it’s not greasy at all with  just enough fries, “home-made” tartar sauce and “home-made” egg & potato salad all for $10:00… ☺

On the Beer front, Ubu is the brand hubby and I enjoy, named after the owner’s much-loved and adored chocolate lab. ☺ The brewery has many different beers on tap and if you aren’t sure which one to order, ask for the samplers, 6 (I think) little glasses of different beers all for you to sample.

This summer we tried Bruce’s Brown Bag Ale and I must say it’s my new favorite, a dark beer, that is smooth going down without a hint of bitterness, actually I would say it’s perfect. We even purchased a jug of it to enjoy back at our campsite… ☺ The Jugs are great as they are only $13:00 to purchase and $10:00 to refill… ☺

You can purchase Lake Placid Brewery’s  regular  (all season)brands in grocery stores and pharmacies too if you can’t make it to the pub…

Lake Placid Pub and Brewery is located at:

813 Mirror Lake Drive: P.O. Box 948: Lake Placid, NY: 12946: Phone: 518-523-3813:

Please click here to check out their website and to view (beer) purchase areas and to check out all the beers offered at this friendly “real beer” brewery.

Natural Wellness Solutions Fig Energy Bars:

From Natural Wellness Solutions  July E-News:

Thanks for Sharing Donna: ☺

Food of the Month

FIGS

Figs are loaded with potassium. In only three figs there is 526 mg. of potassium. Potassium helps muscles and nerves to function properly, it lowers the risk of high blood pressure, and helps maintain calcium levels as well as electrolyte and acid-base balance. The fiber content in figs makes them an excellent choice for general health and weight control. Figs also contain Carotenoids such as beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthins. Carotenoids protect your cells and lung health as well as enhancing the immune system. Eating foods rich in carotenoids enhances your body’s usage of these important nutrients. It is always a better choice to get important nutrients like carotenoids from raw whole foods as opposed to dietary supplements. Lutein is sensitive to cooking and storage as well as storage times, so eating figs fresh is a great way to get the eye protection properties of Lutein. Sutdies have shown that diets rich in carotenoids prove to be of significant importance in preventing chronic disease.
Figs are a sweet, delicious, healthy treat. Fully ripe figs are plump, have a rich deep color and yield to gentle pressure. Fresh figs will stay fresh for up to 3 days when stored at 68 F. Dried figs will stay fresh for several months .

Home Made Tortillas: :)

While away camping with her family, Renee’ (Unique Touch Photography) decided to try the following recipe for Tortillas… They were a hit with everyone and easy to do. :)

Thanks for sharing Renee’

Ingredients:

4 cups flour,

1tsp baking powder,

1tsp salt,

1/2 cup shortening,

1 cup water.

Method:

Mix the dry stuff together.

Cut in the shortening until it’s crumbling.

Make a hole in the batter and add the water a 1/2 cup at a time mix until you have a dough….

Cover and let it sit for 10 mins. On a floured surface, cut into 8 small balls about the size of eggs. Roll out in a circle until they’re about 6 in wide.

Cook in a good size frying pan over med heat for 30 sec to a min our until it starts to get air bubbles and slightly browns. Flip and cook the second side. Warning, the second side cooks faster so really keep an eye on it.

Environmental News
David Suzuki: Science Matters

Young people often ask me what they have to do to be environmentalists. They want to make a difference. My answer is, “Follow your heart. Do what you love most and pursue it with passion.”

You see, environmentalism isn’t a profession or discipline; it’s a way of seeing our place in the world. It’s recognizing that we live on a planet where everything, including us, is exquisitely interconnected with and interdependent on everything else.

Life-giving water moves from ocean to air to land, across the globe, linking all life through the hydrologic cycle. Every breath we take contains oxygen from every plant on land and in the sea, as well as whatever issues from every factory chimney and vehicle on Earth. The web of all living things constantly partakes of and cleanses, replenishes, and restores air, water, soil, and energy. In this way of seeing the world, we are not only recipients of nature’s most vital gifts – we are participants in her cycles.

Whatever we toss without a thought or deliberately dump into our surroundings doesn’t simply vanish or dilute away. Our use of air, water, and soil as garbage dumps means that those emissions and pollutants move through the biosphere, ecosystems, habitats, and eventually our own bodies and cells. Chelsea Update:

We post the updates from Team Chelsea on our website, so please check back often to view the latest posts. June 20th post has a link to a Google map showing the locations and dates of sightings of Chelsea. Team Chelsea is dedicated to bringing Chelsea back home, and in so doing has rescued numerous lost dogs and cats, reuniting them with their distraught owners. ☺ Team Chelsea asks that if you see Chelsea that you PLEASE phone in right away as time is of the essence in tracking Chelsea’s movements and maybe your phone call will be the one that helps Chelsea to move back home. ☺

What to do if you see Chelsea:
• Immediately call 905-706-2635 or 905-666-4676
• Remain calm – projecting a calm energy is very important
• DO NOT face her square on – instead have your body on an angle so you are not in a threatening position
• You can try to lure her with treats, speak quietly, slowly and calmly in order to create curiosity in her rather than excitement
• Allow her to come to you – if she moves away then keep your distance but try and keep her in your sights.
• Please do NOT chase or tackle Chelsea, we do not want her to be subjected to any further trauma and we do not want any harm to come to her or you.
