Public Comment Period Re: Draft, Code of Practice for the Care & Handling of Hatching Eggs, Breeders, Chickens & Turkeys is now open:

SGC Admin: This is an important Draft for everyone, including the chickens and turkey’s that provide us with a food source…

It’s important that our Chickens and Turkey’s are treated with care and compassion, and that they have a “quality” lifespan and a humane demise… Now we have a chance to speak up and step forward … :)

The new draft code includes such suggestions as:

  • Improvement in the welfare of chickens & turkeys beginning with a shift in lighting regimens, providing a minimum of 4 hours of dark/rest time for the birds. (up from 0 to 1 hour). CFHS feels birds should be given up to seven hours per day.
  • New requirements for immediate vet care for sick & injured birds
  • Human Euthanasia.

CFHS would like to see included in the finale draft:

  • Feeding of the birds every day to relieve their chronic hunger, but first the genetic selection that causes their massive appetite and rapid growth needs to shift.
  • Agreed upon limits on lameness injury & mortality rates on Canadian bird farms are needed in order to increase the industry’s humane standards.
  • Hot blade trimming of beaks and toes needs to be phased out in favour of infrared trimming, which is much less invasive & less painful.
  • A decrease in the number of birds housed per square meter.
  • Birds who are not suffering, yet are killed anyway should be called humane killing and not euthanasia.

Who can give their input: The General Public: Industry: Stakeholders: Breeders

The Moon and Astrology: How it affects our daily life…Transiting Moon in Aquarius.. October 2015

The Moon and Astrology

&

HOW IT AFFECTS OUR DAILY LIVES…

In astrology, the moon is connected to our emotions and reactions… how we are feeling on a given day may well be influenced by the sign that is visiting the moon… Each sign stays with the moon for up to 2.5 days…. :)

The Moon Void-off-Course:

There are times throughout the month when the moon isn’t fully immersed in any sign… this is when we say the moon is Void off Course… and when this occurs, we may feel “foggy” and “unfocused” … We may not be sure how we are truly feeling about a situation or a person…. Therefore it is not recommended that we make long-term commitments or important decision’s while the moon is Void off Course…. However there are 4 signs in the zodiac which may prove positive during the Void-off-Course moon…

Good for Void-Off-Course Moon:

These v/c signs may prove to be quite productive times.

  • Cancer
  • Taurus
  • Sagittarius
  • Pisces…

Opportunity Periods  (thanks to astrologer Jim Shawvan):

There are other periods throughout the month that are known as opportunity periods, when it can prove to be a positive time for most people, however if you have challenging aspects happening within your own chart you may not be able to make use of opportunity periods.

Thanks to Jim Shawvan present day astrologer, William Lilly 17th century astrologer and Llewellyn’s Daily Planetary Guide for opportunity periods.

Saturday October 17

9:00am until 5:00pm

Come celebrate the autumn season at APPLEFEST in Historic Downtown Bowmanville, the Saturday following Thanksgiving.

This tremendously popular annual street festival celebrates all things apple.  Four city blocks become a showcase for our many local apple growers who proudly offer up a wide variety of fresh picked apples and other goodies.   You’ll also find fresh-pressed apple cider, homemade apple pies and crisps, candy and carmel apples, cider donuts, and so much more.  Be sure to make a stop for our famous fresh hot apple fritters.  Don’t be discouraged by the line-up, they’re well worth the wait!

Unique handmade, high quality crafts and food products can be found in several large marquee tents and booths lining the street.  Enjoy performances by local musicians and appearances by our friends from the Bowmanville Zoo.  There are plenty of things for the children to see and do, including carnival rides, jumping castles, pony rides, and more.

Your visit wouldn’t be complete without browsing though the many independent shops and restaurants in Historic Bowmanville.  They have plenty to offer at this harvest time of year.

Remember, all of our events offer FREE admission and FREE parking.

Brought to you by the merchants of Historic Downtown Bowmanville.
