Happy Mother’s Day…. :) Sunday May 13th

From the Editor: :)

Mother’s Day is upon us once more…. it’s a day of love and gratitude, or hopefully that’s how it works out….

Mum’s (or Mom’s) come in all shapes, sizes, sex’s and colours….. but they all have something in common, the welfare and happiness of their children. To implement this, Mum’s have to put many of their own needs and desires aside until a time comes when their children no longer need them…

Or that’s what they think….. :)

My mum passed away in 1999, she was 74 years old and had led a life fit for a novel…. I never stop “needing” her

Mum, or Noreen as she was known to others, was one of the kindest people I have ever met, the only trouble with her being so kind was that she always believed in what people told her, which meant she got into some difficult situations.

But no matter what life had thrown at her, or who had used and abused her, mum always believed in giving others the benefit of doubt… even into her final days she was concerned for others….

On one visit with her in the hospital, supper was served, and I was directed by my mum to assist the lady in the bed opposite to her. Mum explained, that the lady didn’t seem to get any visitors, so she didn’t really eat very much and was probably lonely… I did as I was bid, and as I looked back at mum I saw her watching me closely, with a look I will carry with me for ever, her look conveyed “that’s my girl, I love you” ….

And as I remember that time, it always amazes me that even at the very end mum’s compassion was such that it never wavered, she still believed in the good of people……

So Happy Mothers Day Mum….. I love you too….. :)

Make Mother’s Day Special, think of who your mum is as a person, what does she love to do? What makes her laugh? What makes her smile? Who does she love to be around? What’s her favorite food and drink?

Hi Folks I received an email (forgive me for not remembering who sent it along to me)… with the following handy hints on alternative uses for the Bounce Dryer sheets… I have yet to try any of these myself, but never the less find them interesting…. These are the first 10 uses’, I will post the rest in the near future… If you try any of these suggestions please let us know how they worked for you…. :)

The U.S. Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer.

1. It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don’t get opened too often.

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.

6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling..

7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8. To freshen the air in your home – Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.  (I have done this, and it works well)

9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner. (hmm I would check with your vacuum cleaner manufacturer, especially if it’s an expense vacuum.)

10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

Help protect Ontario’s Bats:

Bats may be scary to look at and they certainly have a history of creating hysteria in the ladies when they fear them getting caught up in their hair.

But Bats are a very important part of nature, and they eat insects consuming thousands of them on a summer’s night.

However, our bats in Ontario seem to fighting a mysterious disease which is killing lots of them. The condition is referred to as “white-nose-syndrome” and has been linked to a fungus that grows on the bats as they hibernate in natural caves and abandoned mines.  The fungus irritates the bats causing them to wake up using up their winter fat stores more quickly and forcing them to go outside of their hibernation home during day light hours to look for food, and being winter there isn’t any available for them.

North America has seen five million bats killed because of this condition and it was detected in Canada in 2010.

You can help the bats by reporting any sightings of unusual bat behaviour (flying during the day) or deaths, and by staying away from their hibernation areas.  Please call the CCWHC at 1-866-673-4781 (Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Center) or The Ministry at 1-800-667-1940… if you notice anything unusual. Please do not touch any dead animal until you have spoken with the appropriate authority.
