SGC Admin:
The Community Care Durham Transportation program is looking for Volunteers…

This fabulous program assists seniors to stay in their homes and remain independent for as long as they wish or need to.
Many seniors have to give up their driver’s license at some point, and there are others who never had one to begin with and have always relied on a spouse to get out and about.
It is difficult enough to adjust to living without your best friend to begin with, is it fair to add in a residential change too? Staying in the home you are familiar with is very important to some of us, and doesn’t add to society’s cost, so it’s a good thing. But it can be very difficult to accomplish if one is unable to get out and about to go to the doctor, shops and pharmacy.
With The Community Care Durham Transportation program, volunteer driver’s get rid of the biggest hurdle for our seniors in their “fight” to remain independent. Drivers are paired up with those who need them and our seniors get out and about and have the added delight of chatting with their drivers and potentially creating positive, lasting relationships… :)
Volunteers are sorely needed for this program as it grows, if you have been waiting for the chance to help someone out and learn from them at the same time, this might be the program for you… :)
